(a review) Highland Avenue Coffee House is located in a church basement. That's not different. It has monthly folk concerts. That's not different. It features the best local talent, as well as bringing in performers from out of town. Also, no different from other venues. What's different with Highland Avenue Coffee House is that you won't find anyone at the door collecting the admission fee. Rather, they pass the hat (or bowl) for free-will donations. They provide refreshments, gratis. Also a difference. To paraphrase Bluto in the film, Animal House, "Have some popcorn. Don't cost nuttin'. " Oh, and you sit around tables. Nice touch. Located in the Highland Avenue Church of the Brethren at 783 W.
